I’m going to go out on a limb that I am not the only person to ever use that title. In case you are like me and didn’t really know what a Wiki is I’ll try and define it. The most well known reference is probably Wikipedia. Speaking of which Wikipedia defines a wiki as a type of website that allows the visitors themselves to easily add, remove and otherwise edit and change some available content, sometimes without the need for registration. The origin is actually Hawaiin and means fast because the inventor of the term didn’t want to call it just quick web. I know I am not the first person to write about the popularity of Wiki’s and how they are being used in the business world. I am surprised by how much I didn’t know about them and now I am wondering if we can use them at our company to help with prjoects we are working on. I read an article in the Pioneer Press this past weekend that talked about using Wiki’s for project management. A company has desinged a Web appliance that can hold a Wiki and be used as a "portable filing cabinet". The news article states that Microsoft will be adding the ability to create wikis in the next version of SharePoint so I will probably wait until that is released before I really delve into this. I doubt I could justify the expense of a Wiki Box appliance admist all of the other things we are doing these days.
